Arlnow.com – Part of Virginia Highlands Park near Pentagon City is being transformed into vibrant landscaping with a new agricultural initiative.

The Arlington Friends of Urban Agriculture, the National Living BID, Livability 22202, and the Arlington County Department of Parks and Recreation have jointly developed a project to revitalize a strip of land in the park for a temporary demonstration garden. The project called Highlands Urban Garden (HUG) is located at 1600 S. Hayes Street.

The HUG project will include an exhibition of various irrigation systems and show how challenging soil conditions can be met and how peripheral areas in parks can be converted into functioning gardens. Products from the garden are donated to local pantries.
